View Full Version : Rhino Ramps?
Alucard 10-18-2005, 01:41 AM I just bought these ramps, well the one I got are the 30 dollar ones but I think they will work just fine.
But I mean is there any problem with having these?
I think they will be great. I don't have the money to buy some jacks and jack stands. I don't know just wondering what every one thinks about these?
I would like some pros and cons.

babyhuey 10-19-2005, 10:25 PM Have a set myself Alucard. Have used them for years at home for doing an oil change or even just to get the front end up to inspect or gain access to something. I have the 12,000 pound rated ones and I have put both the front and rear of our 4WD MPV on them as well as my 3/4 ton dodge truck. I think they are even safer than jackstands as they are more sturdy and will not tip over. Just make sure to block wheel that is still on the ground and/or brake on so it does not roll off with you under it and you should have no problems.
bkey71 10-19-2005, 11:17 PM I would not have a problem with them either. You just can't do things like check brakes, or anything that has to do with removing the wheels.
Alucard 10-19-2005, 11:50 PM Yeah I know that but for now I just have a little jack that I use to change my breaks with and for now as long as I am carefull that works just fine.
I use the rams the other day to change my oil and my fule filter for the first time and I just love them now.
I am looking forward to beging able to change my own Transmission oil.
[sm=groupwave.gif] YAY!!!!
Patrick 10-20-2005, 02:09 PM i have a set, and i dont think that i have ever used them...
Alucard 10-20-2005, 02:56 PM LOL!!!! Really?
Man thats crazy
methyl1test 10-21-2005, 05:31 PM they look strong
Patrick 10-21-2005, 06:48 PM well, until this year, i have always been near my dads performance shop, and we have racks...now, i have just been working on the ground.
Alucard 10-21-2005, 11:01 PM oh yeah well that helps. I wish I had some one I knew that I could pay a small fee and when they had open space go work in there shop. I really hate doing my work in my Apt. complex I hate having people come up to me every time I work on my car. I had a kid try to run away with one of my fog lamps. Gosh I was so mad. But I have a guy that parks next to me, he has a Pontiac GTO and boy is that thing nice. He is really cool he always asks me what I am doing and asks if he could help me out any.
I just need some where I could work and may be use some really cool tools. Oh well like thats ever going to happen.
Yeah the ramps are great. The ones I have where only 30 bucks at autozone and they are rated at 8000lbs so yeah my car is only about 2000lbs so its great. I got under the car and wasn't even worried of it falling off the ramps or them breaking.
Patrick 10-24-2005, 03:19 PM what do you drive?

THAT would completely depend on your location.

This is in San Francisco, and I'm sure there are others like it in major cities if you look.
Alucard 10-25-2005, 12:11 AM Wow that would be cool, I'll try and see if I can find one some where around here.
Patrick 10-26-2005, 04:41 PM there are car clubs everywhere..it is just a matter of finding one that you enjoy.
Really? I did a quick search in order to see if I could find one...
...and came up blank. Thankfully, I live in the North Bay area...so I have access to that shop.
bkey71 10-26-2005, 09:57 PM If you are military or a dependent with access to get on a military base, there is a auto hobby shop that does about the same thing. There is one on about every base for the DIY'er.
Patrick 10-28-2005, 05:15 PM well, i live in the metro detroit area, and while i havent found one,i know that they are around, but they are car specific...
the_gray_mazda6 11-17-2005, 02:39 PM those ramps are actually really nice. I want to know if they will be safe to drive up on if a mazda6 were to drive up on it with a 1.5" drop and safely not scratch the fender. would anyone be able to inform me if possible?
6Pack 11-17-2005, 03:42 PM Ya I know what you mean with the drop / clearance issue ... on my Cobra it's the same . What we do is very simple . We put two by fours on the ground to help lift it gradually and it works just fine .

Hey Bkey , just wondering about when the car is on the ramp , with the wheel off to check the brakes , what is holding the car up ... surely not the ramp !? [sm=dontgetit.gif]
6Pack 11-17-2005, 03:53 PM Dumb ass I am , I just re-read your posting , this time looking at ALL THE LETTERS ! It says 'can'T [sm=forgetit.gif]
[sm=hail.gif] You were right in the first place and we both thought the same as for taking off the wheels lol
the_gray_mazda6 11-18-2005, 02:15 AM thats a very good idea, i like to just use the hydraulic jack method. it may be a little more work but those are the tools i got to work with. those ramps are very tempting to get though. you can never have enough equipment in a man's garage. :D
sstlaure 11-29-2005, 11:25 AM Please pick up a set of jackstands.
Do you realize that by supporting your car only on a jack to do the brakes that you are putting you life in the hands of a valve that maybe costs $0.10 and is made in China? You can pick up a set of decent jackstands for $20-30.
At a bare minimum, place one of your tires under the car laying on it;s side so that if the jack does fail, you won't get crushed under the car.
