as for making one you cant on here but if you wanna put one up:

Step 1: Click the User CP link
Step 2: Look for the Settings&Options section in the Control Panel area
Step 3: Click the Edit Avatar link
Step 4: Click the Use Custom Avatar option and upload your own

Note: There is the auto resize feature when you upload it so you dont need to know the dimensions

why can't i add an avatar

A super moderator can help you with that. I wish I could help you but I had trouble as well. Virgin1 was very helpful, I'm sure he'll help you as well

As Jaimie eluded, since a major software upgrade here, there have been a few "issues" that I am having a lot of trouble getting resolved.
Avatars and Signatures are two of the worst and most commonly asked about.
As with Vince and a few other members, I can install an avatar for you. Send me (PM) a link to the picture you want to use and I can go deeper in to your profile than you currently have access to and add it.

I can also add a picture link in your signature, but it will stay a link to the host site. I believe you have the ability to modify, add, change any sig text though.
Let me, or one of the other Mods here know if you need help with ANYTHING on the site. We will be glad to "make it so" if we can.

To contact us, you can right click on our user name in any post listing. One of the optionss is send a PM to this member. With my post-count rapidly approaching 6300 as I write this, I am probably the easiest one to find, but the others will be just as helpful. They are ALL good guys.

If you wish to send the PM to more than one person or Mod at a time, simply begin typing in their user name and a list of members using those letters will pop up after 4 letters, IIRC.
