I've got to ask, given how crummy these tires are, why would you want another set?

Well I am rolling on my stock 15 in snowflake rims. The low profile tire would be a nice to my car for looks and better handling. After those low profiles, I want to get sport springs lowering my car about 1.4 inches.

What are your thoughts? I don't want to spend too much on new rims.

So are you looking for a set of rims, tires, or both?

I will say that the seventeens on my Mazda3 handle pretty well, especially so after I chucked the factory Goodyears and replaced them with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. As for lowering, I need to deal with snow that routinely makes it up into the double digit range, and so there'll be no lowering of my cars, ever. ;)

... And if looking for wheels you don't state which style/kind?
Since you mention the "snowflakes," I assume you have a 2007 or later, but are those the wheels you are looking for? Or for the 1st gen 5-spokers?
15" snowflakes? I thought they started with the 16" wheels?

I'm looking for rims and tires. Hopefully I can find a good deal!
Do the 17 in Low pros help your handling in the snow? Or do you drive another car through that?

As to virgin1, I'm looking for just either the OEM 5 spoke 17 in low profiles or the 17 inch low profiles that are on the newer 07 or 08 mazda 3s.

And I believe that you are right. They are the stock 16 inch wheels. I have a 2008 mazda 3 s sport.

For snow traction I would stick with the 16's and get the skinniest, tallest winter tire that will fit properly. You want to "cut through" the snow, not glide over it. A longer, narrower tire patch does that best.
IIRC, you have 205/55-16's? You could go to a 185/60 which would be just a little shorter, +/-3/4" narrower, but given that winter tires are naturally taller to begin with your speedo would likely be right on the mark!!

Some prefer the smaller wheels for unsprung weight savings. And others because they ride a little better and the tires are a little cheaper.

I see. Well I live in Washington so it doesn't snow to much!
Just looking to improve my handing and looks :)
