hi, does anyone have any suggestion of what kind of oil i should use to avoid burning oil? i m using synthtic oil already, which i know it will make the ring bigger and cause oil burning.

Has the car always been on synthetic or did you just switch? Depending on the condition of the engine and mileage is how you make the decision. If the engine is in good condition and no oil leaks, synthetic is good, it will not promote premature problems. If the engine burns oil and leaks, synthetic will only make it worse.

I use the Walmart brand 20w-50 in my Protege with no problem. I can go every 3000 miles and it does not burn a drop and no leaks. The car now has 153,000 miles on it.

actually my engine has 141,000 miles already, and my previous owner of my car were using synthtic before i brought the car. so for now im still using synthtic, pennzoil 10w30 is what im using right now. I don't see any blue smoke for now, but i do see some oil that are underneath the engine block. the weird thing is, i don't see any oil had drop on the floor in the garage. some people suggested me to use oil like 15w or higher, i just don't know whether it's a good idea or not.

Synthetic is the worst thing to use if you are have an oil consumption problem already. Try switching to a regaular oil rated at 10w-40 and see if it improves.

so what's the different between 10w30 and 10w40?

Multi grade oils have the ability to become different viscosities dependent on temp. It can be a 10 weight when cold and 40 weight when warm. This is to promote oil flow in the engine. Engines with higher mileage can benefit from a heavier weight oil dependent in what climate you live in. I live in South Texas where temps can reach 100 degrees on a regular basis. This is why I run a 20W50 natural oil. Synthetic has different properties and does not need to run as heavier a weight oil. It is hard to describe without getting into much more chemistry. I'm sure you can google it to find more in depth reasons why.

ohh i see. actually i live in michigan so the weather is pretty cold during the winter. so what do you think about synthtic blend? someone suggested me to use a synthtic blend with 15w30 or higher during summer time, he said it might help, but i don't know?

That would be a good idea to try. You can go with a 10W30 in the winter and 10W40 in the summer. If this is what the car has been on in the past and it works, stay with it.
