Hi,

I've googled and found a bunch of different answers, but I'm really interested in knowing exactly what transmission this is?
The answers that I've found are:
- It is the Jaguar transmission from the X-Type
- It is a purpose designed 5 speed, designed & mfg by Ford
- It is a purpose designed 5 speed, designed & mfg by Mazda in Japan

I suspect the truth is a melding of 2 or 3 of these answers.
Does anyone know what the origin of this transmission is and if it is a straight swap from another vehicle?

Thanks
Jim

Actually only the first one is right there Jim. The 5-speed auto trans in the MPV is built by JATCO which stands for Japanese Automatic Transmission COmpany. It is actually a subsidary of Nissan. The official JATCO model # is a JF506E but Mazda calls it a JA5A-EL. Mazda used this trans in the 6 as well for a couple of years. Do not know what all other cars use it but the first link below will let you scroll thru different manuafactures and look for the use of the JF506E transmission. Few other helpful links as well below that.

Thanks for the info - that is great! I'm glad this is a Japanese build & design.
