Hi all! I'm getting ready to work on my current project and I'm wondering if anybody has any info/heads-up on swapping a new motor into my B2600i 4x4. My biggest concern is adapting the "new" motor to the stock drivetrain, as I don't want to have to change the transfer case or automatic tranny. I'd like to stay within the Mazda product family and am considering a 13B, although that's not etched in stone. Anyone with some info or heads-up? TIA

to the best of my knowledge, the rotary motor, will not work without serious and extensive modifications. of course new motor mounts, the stock tranny will not work, you have to take one from a rx-7, have a custom driveshaft made, and with all that new found power, you really want to swap out the rear end. thats just my two cents.

good luck

on a 2wd you need to get the rx7 bellhousing and swap it onto the truck tranny. and yea custom mounts are a given

I wouldn't think that the rotary would be good for a 4x4, since you have a lot of drivetrain loss, which might not work well with a rotary (not a lot of torque on the low end).

That said, I had a '75 REPU (Rotary Engine Pick-Up) which worked well with the short gearing of the 4 spd. manual. It was only RWD, however, which seems to be the layout that the rotary likes.
