Any ideas what could be causing a knocking noise on the near side front when turning if it is not the nearside CV joint?

We are pretty sure that that is what it is, if so should we change just the CV joint ot the complete drive shaft, given the car has done 66k miles. Good insurance?

Also are there any instructions pictoral or on line about how to change it. I am trying to source a manual but they are a bit thin on the ground in the UK. It would be useful to know if things like do we loctite the driving spline on the outer drive shaft, and what torque the main nut should have etc.
