i was coming home from the mall i was just crusing going with the flow of traffic and all of sudden i notice that when i step on the gas i felt zero throttle response so i look down and my rpms are at zero and my engine check light comes on. my headlights and radio stayed on.

i take the nearest exit that i could, keep in mind i was just rolling cuz my engine was off, and i had no power steering or brakes so i ended up parking just off the highway exit. i had to stop using my e-brake. so i was like "wtf" after i parked and i tried to start my car agian and it would just crank over but the engine just wouldnt fire. so i let it rest a bit and it tried it agian. same thing happens.

i call my friend up to come help me and while i'm waiting for him to find me i try to start it agian and it actually starts. so i was like cool and then i just turned the engine off cuz he was lost and it was gonna take a while for him to find me and i didnt trust driving my car back home alone

After my friend arrived i decided to follow him home i was follwing him and it happened agian. i ended up rolling into some plaza and my car just wouldnt start. so i left it there over night.

anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong with my car? i think it has to do with the ignition because the engine cranks just fine, i dont think the sparkplugs are firing though.

mazda engine with 142k miles on it.
engine code f2

Ignition rotor inside distributor could cause sudden loss of spark-maybe a tune-up is in order?

100% agree with the ignition.........try the ignition control module (if your car has one) I had a similar problem at one point and replaced that, and all was fine. I would also check the entire fuse panel, and also the fuses under the hood, and the other thing i would look at is the ignition switch and all wiring for that as well. might be a stupid little short somewhere or a bad ground somewhere along those lines. let me know what it ends up being.
