Default Transmission Question?

To Flush or Not to Flush? That's my question. I've been looking for the answer all day and haven't found a good one. I want Know for routine transmission maintance on a 2000 milly S, if you need to flush the Transmission Fluid or if you just need to drain the fluid and clean the little metal paticals off of the magnet then put more tranny fluid in. Also what is the recommend fluid for a 2000Milly S? If there are any previous post on here let me know.

FYI: Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I was on vacation and during my vacation I got my car painted, I will try and post some before and after pics when I get then chance.

Any input into my questions would be a great help thanks Dudes!

Cheers!

Default RE: Transmission Question?

a normal transmission drain and refill only gets out about half. the rest will stay in the torque converter, and not come out till the motor starts running. a flush by a machine will get out all the fluid. i would only flush if the fluid in there now is dark. it should be red. if it is still red, you can do just a drain and fill. add a bottle of lubegard. the fluid is common dexron. i am sure there are pieces stuck to the magnet, but it is a pain to get to, and unless your transmission is acting up, you dont need to clean it. on all our cars, i drain/flush transmission, brakes, and coolant yearly. every oil change, i take out and refill as much power steering fluid that i can. dont wait for the fluids to go bad.

Have an 02 2.5L with 58k. CLE came on and hold light started flashing. Transmission would not shift. Purchased extended warranty to 72k. Took to dealership and they stated an internal trans. switch was bad and transmission needed to be replaced at cost of $3k. Warranty people did not agree and suggested to replace transmission fluid with new and reset computer. Paid $145 for trans. flush. Currently light stays off and car runs normal. If anything happens again, hope it is before warranty is up.
