i just put my 04 rx8 in the shop. i need a new clutch and possibly transmission work. apparently the owner before me may have added some after market parts to the transmission which may void my warraanty. im not bent outta shape about the clutch just the work that may need to be done if the transmission has been messed with. what could have been added to it to void it out, i heard the only thing really could be added to a transmission for a better performance would be something with the shift. i know absolutly nothing about cars. someone please help before i end up paying for something that will only end up costing more money. also i need a new air filter assembly. the one now is after market and mazda suggests i put original parts on for a better drive. the car does sound like its dragging or pulling, and he says thats were the problem is along with the after market exhaust system! what the hell!

 

Just a few additional questions. Did you buy the vehicle from a dealer or the previous owner

if there is a problem with my transmission but was not caused by an after market part will this void my warranty?

 

it's possible, that the previous owner didn't actually modify the trannie or clutch, BUT, they may have also had problems and used non-Mazda or substituted incorrect Mazda parts (from another Mazda vehicle) such as pressure plates, bearings, seals, etc. As to the shifter, is the shift **** original Mazda? Thats a tip-off as to whether it has been changed to another brand and thus modified for example to a short throw shifter. Or you can ask the previous owner, in a non-threatening way, if he modified it, and he might tell you what he did if anything.
