Ok, my fiancee and I just bought a 2008 Mazda 6 yesterday and I bought a new oil filter (cause I want my own specs in the engine) and it's quite different than what I've ever seen before. I'm not new to Mazda engine's as I own a 01 Millenia.
So my question is, where is the oil filter on the car?? It seems to be in some type of casing that comes off and the filter itself falls out. Thanks in advance!

It'll be near the front in the middle of the car. You will no doubt have to remove a splash shield in order to see or replace it.
Oh and yes, I'm sure it is a paper cartridge style filter... though you can use a 2.0L adapter to convert it to a spin-on. I didn't do that until recently, after my car was already out of warranty.
