Default 1999 Protege automatic

Hi,
Just bought a month ago this used Mazda Protege 1999 automatic. Drove it for about a month without any problem. All of a sudden while I was on the highway, the car started to shift gear erratically, revving up and down. When decelerating the shifting was done with strong jerking. After a while the o/d light came on flashing. I got off the highway and the car kept on doing this randomly. The next morning decided to take the car to the mechanic, it drove fine for 30 minutes then started to do it again, and the light came on again. When I stopped (did not shut off the car), the light went away.
Does this sound like this TSB ? If yes, what needs to be done to fix this problem ? How much would it cost ? Thanks for your help.

sounds like its a trip to mazda dealer to find out. Did CEL come on during the revving and shifting? What are the codes? they are in a Pxxx format. You didn't mention the CEL(check engine light) light coming on.

Thanks for your help.

The Check Engine Light NEVER came on. I drove the car yesterday to work (25 miles each way) and the car acted like nothing ever happened. Worked great. But I have the feeling it will come back.
I just wanted to see if it was a known problem.

flashing OD light indicates tranny problems. don't wait , trouble can leave you stranded in the worst places.... and can be pricey to fix. I urge you to get it checked out!!!

it seems that there is a TBS for erratic gear shifting. What happens is the erratic shifting probably throw the computer off and doesn't know what to shift into. The fact that it doesn't happen on a regular basis tells me that it could be the reason. I will have the job done and advise.
Thanks
