Default dirt or paint coming off?

OK so I recently baught a black '08 Mazda 3. I read a lot on this forum about home deatiling and invested in some products and plan to do the work next weekend. The cars a bit dirty (fine coat of dust/dirt from normal driving and it also rained here recently). so I baught one of those quick detail spray on wipes - Mother's I think - to give it a wipe in the interim of my washing and waxing it (too hot and sunny to do it today...

I used this same product on it a couple of weeks ago for a quick wipe and it did a good job.

So this time I noticed that the rag I used on the hood came off with a lot of Black looking "dirt" - is this road soot or is there a possibility that it could be paint? I didn't notice this the last time I used the stuff and I used the same microfiber cloth both times. The hood was very dirty actually - I commute on the hiway one hour each way to work everyday so I'm subject to lots of road soot.

Anyone know if the Black Mica is an all-in-one or is there a clear coat? I'm new to this but want to learn and be able to take care of my car - appreciate the tips and help.

I'm to second owner by the way.

thanks much.

i'd be hard-pressed to believe that the clear coat on your car has given way and you're taking paint off. it's dirt, man.

Haha, yeah I know. I was thinking about it after and realized that rain beads off nicely suggesting a nice wax is still on there. Amazing the soot that comes from the roads - yuck. Makes me want to wash my car every week.
