I've purchased a Mazda CX7 and I plan on modifying it so I'm curious if anyone knows if the CX7 6speed Automatic transmission is capable of handling more power.

Given my CX7 is AWD I was wondering ifthe newer automaticMazda 6 shared the same transmission.

Any technical information would be greatly appreciated.

 

The Mazda 6 does share the 6-speedAW6A-EL transmission with the CX-7. You should be able to safely increase the horsepower to a degree as the Speed 6 with the same transmission is rated at 274 horsepower over the 244 horsepower rating of the CX-7.

 

To be honest, I'm into modifying vehicles in a big way... this is my wife's vehicle and she wants me to customize it for her.

I have been eyeing all the niceCosworth parts and the ATP turbo kit ( GT2871R ) so my ballparkgoal is around 300 whp

If however the tranny is incapable of handling this power.... then it would indeed be a waist of my money.
