'96 MX6 Ticking Sound
Hi All,
I have a 96 MX6 V6. As of yesterday, I've been hearing a ticking sound coming from the top of the engine bay and the battery light has come on. In addition, the exhaust is a thicker white color than normal.
I don't think it is the alternator as that was replaced within the last year. The belt also seems to have enough tension and doesn't look to be slipping.
I'm thinking there's an issue with one of the cylinders not firing properly, but I'm not too sure and I'm a bit nervous to drive it anywhere as I've been stranded in the cold before (not much fun at all).
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

The battery light only comes on when there is a problem with the charging system. It would not be unususl for a rebuilt alternator to have problems in a year or less...have seen it many times.
If you are concerned about one of the cylinders having a problem, does it run rough? Has all the maintenance items been kept up to date, inc tune ups, filters, etc.? You can also have a compression test done which will determine the condition of the engine.
