Anybody able to help me with a GLC (Maybe an engine picture?)?
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to get my 1984 GLC back on the road for a few months now. I bought it off a farm for $123, with the intent of using it as a work car. Since then, I have lost my job and was in a major car accident that totaled my daily driver... So, I really need to get this GLC up to somewhat reliable daily driver status.
My biggest issue is that previous owners have removed various hoses and such, and I have no idea if they were important or what they go to. I'd really like to see another GLC's engine, so I can see what goes where and what is missing. (I have thought of the junk yard, but the only one that has a GLC told me that the car is missing the engine, so that doesn't help.).
Specificly, I have 2 hoses that may be problematic. One hose goes from the Pass. side firewall (I forget if it just runs along it, or goes through it) and stretches to mid-engine. Some idiot plugged the end with a Golf Tee.... I have no idea what it goes to, or if it is important.
My 2nd hose, is completely missing. Their is a port off the back of the carb that has no hose attached. My friend says it might be a vaccuum line, but I am not sure of that.
I have rebuilt the carb, put in a new fuel filter and pump, fresh gas, a few other small things and I still can't get it to run without having idling issues.
Before the rebuild, it was idling really high, now it will idle about normal when it is heated up, but it tends to not want to idle after driving (I.e. at stop signs or lights), yet it will idle in my driveway before I drive it. It doesn't happen every time though. So, we were thinking maybe it was due to that missing carb hose.
Anyone out there have any experience with these cars? Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hey GLC:
I don't have one or pictures of it. You may be able to find a picture on google image search or in your local library. Our library keeps older Chilton shop manuals around for a long time.
Good luck! and use gas without ethanol!
