Default Cigarette Lighter, 2000 Protege: help!

Well, best as I can figure, there is no fuse for the cigarette lighter (which isn't working).....is there some sort of fusible link behind it? If so, anyone know how to get to it? Thanks for any info!!

The girlfriends capella had a soft wire connection to the centre terminal of the lighter socket. You pull out the socket and check continuity between the terminals and the centre terminal. I think its there as a simple thermal overload, gets too hot and melts so no more current, rather than starting a fire in the dash. We replaced ours by soldering in a piece of solder. It seems to work. May be safer just to replace the socket though.
