cigarette lighter bulb
Hey everybody,
I was driving home tonight and noticed that the green ring around my cigarette lighter was not lit as my headlights were on. (but the cigarette lighter still work) I think that it's supposed to light up when the headlights are turned on. I have a 03 Mazda Protege SE. I think it might be the bulb, but I don't know where is that bulb!?
Please forgive me if I made maybe mistakes in typing it's because english is not my first language.
Thanks in advance!!

1. Your English might not be the greatest, but it's OK for this one.
2. The cigarette lighter illumination is from a light bulb mounted on the the cigarette lighter assembly. You have to A) Disconnect battery. B) Remove Cigarette lighter assembly C) Replace either the bulb or whole cigarette lighter assembly (depends on type).
You can get a replacement either from a dealer, or in most cases, use a "universal" one from an auto supplies store. If buying from a store, be sure it's the right one; they come in many shapes and sizes.
If you have to buy everything including the plug element, keep the old element for a spare in your glove compartment.

I think this forum will help you: go to

Be sure you read all the posts.
The image shows just the lamp mount assembly on the side, not the whole lighter assembly.
This thread also mentions the bulb type, so I guess you can change the bulb instead of buying a whole new kit.
(The uneven illumination they discuss is due to the fact that the bulb is on one side, but it is also due to the plane of orientation of the filament inside the bulb, so if you play around with the bulb with it powered up, you may be able to optimize its mounting for best light.)
