I recently sold a 1991 Mazda 626 LX 5 speed with 128,000 miles on it. I bought this car in 1996, I was the second owner. I used the car as a secondary vechile, I didn't drive it that much. The car was reliable, it always started and I never ever had any problems with the clutch, slipping or otherwise.

I sold the car because because I have two teenagers that just turned driving age and neither one wanted a 5 speed car. I sold the car for $500.00

Prior to selling the car I went for a test drive with the potential buyer. I noticed he knew nothing about how to drive a 5 speed vechile. From a stop he seemed to always start out in 2nd gear, also he didn't know how to get the car in reverse. Never the less he bought the car. After he took care of the title work he came back and picked up the car. As I watched him drive off I thought man he got a good deal!

However 4 hours later he called me and said the car would not move when he put it in gear. I went to his home to investigate. I put the car in first gear, let off the clutch and nothing happen. I could not even feel the clutch grabbing the least little bit. The same for all other gears. The engine RPM'S were as smooth as if I was sitting in nuetral. The buyer thinks I sold him a bad car. My question is, is it possible that the car had a clutch problem all along and I never noticed it? OR Is it possible that this buyer could have burned out the clucth in that short amount of time?
Also what would a clucth job cost on this car?

Need to make an honest descision.

I would say that the car is still worth $500 even if it didn't run, had a blown engine or trans or such. It is possible to burn up a clutch in a very short time if this person cannot get the RPM's + gas + clutch pedal syncronization together. I would think you would pay at least $500 to get a clutch replaced in most shops.
