ECU caught fire - Need Help
Hello,
I had an electrical short in my engine controll unit/ computer of my 2000 Protege. It actually caught fire! It was located behind a panel under the front passengers feet. The ECU will be easy enough to replace (if I can find one at a good price).
My real problem is the fire melted that really heavy duty connector that goes to the top of the ECU and some of the wires going into it. This big bundle of wires goes through the firewall to the engine. I don't think I have the ability to tackle the job of replacing the whole wireing assembly. Is this car worth fixing? My though is if I could get the last foot of the cable and connector I could do a major splice job (there are a lot of wires here).
Does this sound reasonable? Where could I get this piece of cable and connector? Is this car worth fixing? Everything was fine with it up until now.
Newbie needs help. Thanks in advance.
