How do I get codes from a 1989 626?
I've searched everywhere to find out how to get my "check engine" light to blink codes for me. I was on the interstate when the car started cutting out, when I got to a stop light, it died while starting to accelerate on green. It wouldn't start back up immediately. I waited a few minutes, tried it again and it started. Got to where I was going, then it died in the parking lot, immediately restarted though, so I cut it off and went in for a couple hours. When I came back out, all it would do is crank, it was turning the engine, but wouldn't start. It never backfired. I had just gotten a full tank of 87 octane gas from a place where I don't get gas much a few days earlier. Had to have it towed to my house. The first time I tried it, it started, ran a while at a rather weak idle, then died and would start again until the next day. The first thing I replaced was the fuel filter, it seemed to be really clogged when I blew through it, took all my lung power, whereas the new one just whistled. The new one made no difference though, so I replaced the ignition coil, then the distributor cap and rotor, then the battery, plugs, and plug wires. Nothing has made a difference. This car has always run strong and I can't figure it out. Oh and when it does run and I rev it, it produces a lot of white smoke. I'm not totally sure on this part, but it seems that when it was cutting out on the interstate the tach was falling each time. I've read that it could be the distributor, or the fuel pump, or bad gas. Can anyone help?
