mazda capella 1997
hi,
i have a mazda capella 1997 ,gf-8p modle, 1.8l. the problem is when i apply the brakes, on the front driver side it makes a loud clicking sound. i thought it was the front engine mounting, have changed it, but still it makes that noise when i apply the brakes,
have checked the brake system, its all good, the suspension is also upto date. nothing loose.
can anyone help me what can be the problem.
thanks

Is is one "click" or a continuous clicking? Is the car pulling to one or the other side while braking?
If it is one click I would suspect either the brake on the driver's side or a suspension part on the driver's side. I know you checked but maybe your procedures were not able to discover the bad part. A loose caliper, a bad ball joint or a strut may be yanked forward causing the single click.
If it is a continuous clicking it may indicate a bad CV joint. There may also be a way for the CV joint to cause a single click.
I think the Mazda Capella is your country's version of the Mazda 626.

hi mate,
i checked everything but it seems the sound is comming from inside the transmission. i dont know what can be wrong with it. its just one knocking sound when brake is used in foward drive position, not in reverse. i think ill have to take to garage to have it inspected.
whats your opinion.
thanks,
nishal

Hi Nishal:
Yes, I suggest to take it to a mechanic because it comes from inside the transmission.
There is one check I can think of: Jack up the driver's side front enough to get the wheel of f the ground. With both hands quickly turn the wheel back. That simulates getting off the accelerator while driving. Can you hear the sound can you tell where exactly it comes from?
