Cool, thanks

unfortunately none of the codes worked for my rx8 and it just now flashes err instead of code...the manual says this means the whole stereo will have to be replaced...I really hope not as cannot afford that!!

Hi,
method worked perfect on my mazda 6 sport@wagon 2003.
After changing battery, i needed the code but didnt have it.
So after 3 attempts you get the error message and then just :

Step one:- press one at a time- preset 6, AM, Auto M, Seek ^ (up).

Step Two:-Input this number, 4989.
Step Three:- Press and hold Auto M and Preset 6 together.
Step Four:- The Word 'GOOD' will appear on the screen indicated that the radio will work.

Big thanxs to the forum and to Blue_SP20.

Default Radio blank..no power

I had my alternator replaced last week (2002 Tribute ES-V6) and everything was fine. The next day my wife started the car to go to work and said the radio is not working. The screen is blank and it won't go on. The weird thing is I was able to eject a cd from the changer, so it's still getting power. Will these codes that were posted help me?

This is just a guess, but it sounds to me like the memory power is still there, but the main power is off.
There is a constant 12v power source to modern auto radios to protect it's memory (e.g. station presets, clock, other personal settings, etc,) and that allows you to eject a CD w/o the unit actually being on. The main power (fused) is what the radio relies on to power up.
Check the fuse box fuse for the radio, but my guess is that there is a second smaller fuse in the system either behind, or as part of the head unit itself.

Unfortunately as I said none of the codes worked on the RX8 so had to take to a Mazda Dealership, cost £20 but the radio does now work and does not (as the manual stated) have to be replaced

Thank you all for your input. I think I may have found the problem. My power mirrors, cigarette lighter and radio are all not working. I read the owners manual online (I had lost mine awhile ago) and the fuse that controls all three is in the power distribution box under the hood. I'll be going to buy a new fuse this afternoon and replace it. My fingers are crossed that this works.

What is the easiest way to get the old fuse out so I can bring it into the auto parts store? I don't want to risk buying the wrong fuse.

edit, later: Well that didn't work. Replaced the fuse and still nothing! Grrrrrrrr.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hmmmm. Electrical problems... Unfortunately, I'm out of suggestions at the moment.
Let me ponder on it for a while. Or if someone else has an idea....?
