The throttle started bouncing in my 04 Mazda 3 Hatchback Manual Transmission for some reason. It does it intermittently at random. If I turn the car off and restart it, the problem goes away for a bit and then comes back eventually. Most days it doesn't do it at all. Occasionally it happens. Any ideas would be appreciative. The car as about 100k on it. I recently cleaned the Mass Air Sensor and didn't see any improvement. Again, this throttle bouncing only happens from time to time. Thank you so much for any advice

Versicom: I had a similar issue with my Ford Windstar. It is actually only the tachometer that is bouncing, there seems to be nothing wrong with the throttle.

I took the instrument cluster out and took it apart. There is a housing with the light bulbs, a printed circuit board and another board with stepper motors for the tach and the speedo, then there is a faceplate and the lens.

I could see nothing wrong on any part, but after putting it back together it worked fine. My conclusion is that some contact was affected by a little corrosion.

If you take it apart do not remove the hands from the stepper motor axles. On the Windstar they are not keyed. I had to do some guess work to get the hand in the right position.
