MX-BP-ZE Engine with Protege Gearbox?
Hey guys,
I'm starting building a Midlana ... www.midlana.com
The car is based on a lot of MX-5 components (hubs, brakes, steering, even seats), but the choice of FWD engine/transaxle is free.
To make life simple I want to try and get down to one donor car. Now using an MX-5 "as-is" is out of the question as it's RWD.
However, as I understand it, the MX-5 and the Protege both used the BP-ZE 1.8 DOHC motor.
Does anyone know if it's possible to mate a BP-ZE motor from an MX-5 to a manual transaxle from a Protege? This way I can buy a single donor car (94-97 1.8 MX-5) then just trade the RWD transmission for a FWD Transaxle. Plus the BP-ZE 1.8 DOHC from the MX-5 is a sweet little motor, very tough, and very tuneable for further fun in the future.
Thanks for any help and input!
Merry Xmas!
Steve
