No spark, no fuel

No spark, no fuel
I woke up this morning and my car would not start. It turns over but does not hit a lick. It is a 99 Protege 1.8 liter ES auto with 70k miles. I checked all fuses, and relays with the help of my aircraft mech. uncle. The fuel pump does not come on, and there is no spark. Could it be the PCM? That seems the logical answer to me. The car gave no signs of trouble prior. Hooked up the OBDII computer and got an 8888 error that indicates that it cannot read the PCM. I have read it with this computer in the past due to an oxygen sensor. Can the PCM be checked? Does any one know where to get one cheap? P/n FP5218881B. Thanks for your help...need my car and can't afford to take it to the stealership.
