Default Poor heating

Thanks for the response guys.
Well, yesterday I recieved a call from our local dealer who asked me to drop the car off A.S.A.P. and leave it with them. They have given me a 6 as a loaner while some tech folks from Head Office come and look at it.
Something about coolant leaking onto exaust and into vents? Possible head issues? Not as knowlegable as you both. Anyway, they have it for now so I will let you know when I do. A nice loaner though, and being treated very well by our dealer. Glad this is under warranty, as it sounds expensive.

Default Poor Heating

Finally got my 5 back out of the shop. Mazda had it for 2 days and said they checked everything. Looked for coolant leaks, air locks in system, vents, actuators, even had two Mazda folks looking it over. They say it is fixed and is producing more heat than their service shuttle. Well, it is marginally warmer, but not enough to melt frost on the window after idling for 20 min., and it still blows out hot when making left hand turns. I am at a loss. This must just be a design flaw in the new 5, I don't know. My wife's 3 heats faster and the air temp is much warmer. Go figure.
I take proper care of our cars and hoped to get a good 7-8 years out of this one.
Probabably not now.

Actually I had the opportunity to drive my own 98 Protege again. (Thanks, son!) I noticed that making a turn can send warm air to me. It never bothered me though. I guess that making a turn is redirecting the airflow as a result of the inertia of masses.

I also think the more efficient engines get the less heat will be available to make the cabin comfy. On top of that in order to save weight they skimp on insulation.

Idling a car won't give much heat.
To really get heat i have to floor it. Put the car under load!
I have a 180 degree thermostat and it takes a while to heat up. My car originally came with a 188 degree thermostat and heated up faster. I personally do not like a car to run that hot as it negates the performance but increases emissions help.
What value of thermostat is in your car? If your thermostat has never been changed, maybe it is weak and time to change it.

It is a 2012 Mazda 5 and they replaced the thermostat on their first attempt to fix the issue. I do not know what the degree rating on the new thermostat is.
