ok now dont jump down my throat, I just got a new to me 06 three, i'm inta mountain biking pretty big, but I wanna know how i can stop the roof rack from scratching the crap outt my roof. its not installed yet, so i have time still....[8D] thanks

If you're talking about the feet that sit on the roof, the only thing you can do is clean it really well and then put down some 3M clear protective tape under where the feet would sit. Change it out every once in awhile to prevent it from getting scratches all the way through the tape.

The other option is more expensive, but probably better in the long run, Get a towbar fitted and put buy a rack that clamps to the ball. There is no chance that you will drop the bike on the roof, and its easier to install and remove than a roof rack.

If bikes or skis are the only thing you carry, that's a great option. I also have (2) 16 ft kayaks to carry, so the roof rack works well for me. It also allows me to bring large items back from Home Depot (lumber, etc.)
