SAFETY HEADS UP - MazdaSpeed OTC Springs
At first I wanted to credit this to de-icing chemicals, but the obvious has been pointed out: There is no deterioration of the surface leading to the crack. The spring simply failed and snapped in half.
Eight years - 80,00 miles. It's not track-driven.... It's not raced... It doesn't haul heavy loads or tow a trailer. Hell, it doesn't even haul more than 1 person 90% of the time.
BS in my mind..... And Mazda will tell me I'm screwed because even though they sold this part alongside the car on the Mazda website, it's a 'track only' part and has no warranty. Should have went with Eibach from the start.
