Default stalling tribute

Well this is troubling me.

2001 tribute with 90000 miles. It will start and immediately die. If you hold the gas pedal down it will idle fine at 3000 rpm. I have replaced the fuel filter, air filter, and plugs. I was debating if it was the airflow valve. I did not think that it is the idle position sensor due to it will stay started without this sensor. Well I am at a loss I hope someone can help me once again. I would just replace the afv but it is $100.00 and we are on a budget right now. Thanks for your help.

Sure does sound like you may have an idle air control valve that has stuck closed. If you can maintain a decent RPM up to the point of letting it idle and then stalls I would suspect that first. But wait. You say it will stay started without the idle position sensor? Does this mean that if you start the vehicle without this sensor connected it will not stall as usual? Does the engine also rev up ok with this sensor not connected? Reason I am asking is that engine does not have an idle position sensor as it does have a throttle position sensor and that may possibly be a source of problem. Anytime you can disconnect a sensor and things seem to operate better is a possible clue to the problem. If you can describe the sensor being disconnected or take a pic then would help to understand better. And no, don't just go out and buy a new afv untill sure that is the problem. Like i said earlier, sounds a lot like a stuck idle valve and I have one that is almost new (8k miles) that will send to you for nothing if that is the problem. Post all that you know from this post and lets see if we can figure this out. I know about being on a budget.

Ok I do not have the book on this car so I am going off of what I know from other cars I have worked on and the name of the sensor. Throttle position sensor does not seem to change anything when it is disconnected. Let me go back sometimes it will run fine and others it will not start at all. When it was starting I tested this and it looked to be the acv. I will post pics of this as soon as I can. This is the only sensor on top to the intake just past the throttle body. I am going to take a pic and I will post soon.

Let me double check at home to make sure I still have the intake manifold and air control valve. If I do, you can have it for postage only. Do not have any other need for it. Send me a PM with your mailing address and will get to the post office in the morning.

No worries. Don't have a paypal account. If you must then donate the $10 to help victims of the hurricane and I'll be happy.
