Transmission
I have a 02 Protege and i am wanting to check the transmission oil level. Is their a screw or a window to look through for this because i am not seeing a dip stick for it under the hood or maybe im not looking hard enough? Thanks for your help

RE: Transmission
There is a plug at front of trans near radiator that serves as both refill and check plug. Oil level should set so that oil just dribbles out when this plug is removed. Need a 23mm wrench to take out. 75W-90 recommended oil and should take a little under 3 quarts for a complete drain and refill. Sent a picture as well.

RE: Transmission
ok thank you very much but if i could ask you another question if it is indeed to low will the check engine lite or an check oil light come on. Also the car has about 70 thousand miles on it but probably only 60 thousand on the new tranny should i change the tranny oil i heard its not necesarry to change manual transmission oil thanks again

RE: Transmission
There are no warning lights of any kind for a low transmission oil level. Changing the transmission oil is an excellent idea. Oil still warms and cools like motor oil and can get moisture in it from the air as well as metallic debris from moving gears and synchros. Cheap insurance to spend $10-$15 for 3 qts of gear oil to help protect a $3000 transmission.
