Default valve stem seals

I have a b6 engine (8 valve - fuel injection). Can I replace valve stem seals without removing head?

You can but valve seals to fix oil consumption/smoking is a dice roll. More than half the time it is not the valve seals but the oil rings clogged with carbon that cause it. You can Seafoam it first as a cheap solution to be sure. Buy 2 bottles ,put 1 in the gas tank. Half of the other in your crankcase and drive it 200 miles. Remove the spark plugs and pour the other half can into the cylinders. let it sit an hour or 2 then put a towel or rag over the plug holes and crank it over to be sure you dont bend a rod cranking it with alot of liquid in the cylinder. Install the plugs and warm the engine up. Rev it a few times then change the oil. Use a straight 30 weight oil if you are having oil consuption problems. A little marvins marvelous mystery oil each oil change in the crankcase til your problem is cured will help. Sometimes it is a slow process bring one back but i have done it many many times and it works.

Thanks Hixx, I will give that a try. Makes a lot of good sense. Will post outcome.
For what its worth, motor isnt smokingand fuel consumption is still excellent and motor is not leaking oil. But still have to put in a pint or 2every 1000km.
