Window motor or switch

Window motor or switch
my 91 mx6 is having window problems on the passenger side..When I bought it about a year and half ago only the passenger side switch worked. The driver side would work the passenger side but only for a very little movement. It never affected the drivers side operation so it was never a big deal for me. The passeneger side was always slower, it would catch up at about 3/4 up. But three weeks ago it gonked out. Now it only goes up when I'm in park and I have to play with the switches for about 5-10 minutes rested in between and then the window will go up. Hence I stopped putting the window down.
Where I get my oil changed they said it was both my window switches, driver and pasenger side. I was a little skeptical because at the last minute I told them of the erractic switch problem I've always had..and then 20 minutes later they said that was the problem.
So I had somebody else look at it and he said it was the motor, not the switches.
I want to fix this myself, I found used switches for both sides and I can get a motor used as well. But how do I know which is the problem?
Any ideas...
