1992 Mazda 626 DX Shop Manual/ Computer Codes
- How does one retrieve obd1 diagnostic codes from a 1992 Mazda 626?
I assume it's displayed not through a scan tool but via a flashing dash light but what initiates the process?
Some cars require a series of ignition on/off ..which I tried and got nothing.
Some require a jumper in place but, if so, where, etc.? I understand it 1992 Mazda 626 has no Data Link Connector
(For any that might reply something like "I believe AutoZone does it for free", let me preemptively state that I believe this year car predates the use of their scan tool and I don't believe AutoZone makes housecalls.)
So, how does one retrieve diagnostic codes from a 1992 Mazda 626?
- Also, on a related note, so far I've been unable to find it here or on other Mazda sites (or anywhere else for that matter)
would anyone know if, and if so where, one can view online or download (1986-1992) Mazda 626 shop manual?
Thanks

Just dealing with the same problem
What I have found, is that your car is a code reader. You just need to learn to listen to it. There is a Green 1-Pin "Test connector" located near the upper strut under the hood of the drivers side. You (With ignition off) connect this green connector to Ground. Turn ignition on and watch as check engine light turn on, then off now the magic happens. The Check Engine Light (CEL) will start to tell you why it is on. In my case it simply flashed on (Long) one time, then two (Short) flashes. It is trying to tell me 12. 12 means Throttle Sensor. I then Trouble shoot my (TPS) throttle position sensor. The TPS has three wires one black (12 volt negative), one red (5 volt reference voltage), and one White a signal voltage that the TPS changes incrementally from 1 to 5 volts. My TPS has 12 volt negative, 5 volt positive but absolutely no incremental change. MY TPS IS DEFECTIVE. This is my analysis at 10:09 PM on a Saturday night. I will give update as I figure my car problems out. Of great help was http://autorepair.about.com/library/...l-dtcs-44a.htm. The diagnostic codes listed on this site for a 1989 showed 1,8,9,10,12,14,15,17,25,26,28,34, and 40. The check engine light will clarify what your exact problem is. Good luck
