Default 2001 626 GF central lock went haywire

Hi all,
I have a peculiar issue with my remote and/or central lock. The symptoms are:
1. All doors closed, central lock unlocked with the key (driver side door) - Lock button on the remote does nothing.
2. Like above, doors closed and unlocked - pressing unlock button makes a click in all locks (trying to open already unlocked locks) and then shuts all the locks.
3. Now all the doors are closed and locked. Lock button still does nothing. Unlock button opens all locks for half a second, then all locks get locked again automatically.
4. Turning the key in driver side door locks and unlocks the CL normally.
5. So does unlocking and locking with the button above the door handle inside.
6. Unlocking with either the key or door button does not produce that effect of unlock/ lock again.
7. If any door is open the unlock button causes the lock/unlock/lock/unlock go on indefinitely until I close the door, then it stops and doors are locked.

At this point I cannot figure out if this is the issue with the remote, one of the locks or some door sensors. I put in new battery, tried to reprogram the remote but that behavior occurs during programming procedure. I believe the Lock button on the remote is fine as double click during programming is being registered.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
