Default 2001 626 Tranny Stuck

My 01 626 2.0L engine its auto tranny stuck in park gear. No matter which gear the lever switches to, the tranny will not engage. It was happening after a hot and humid day with A/C on. Once it went into "park", it would not get back out to any other gear. Any advice?

I suggest checking tranny fluid level and condition. I don't know the exact procedure for that car, but on many, you start it, get to normal temp, shift down then back up through all the gears, then check level with tranny in either neutral or park. If fluid level is good, but smells like it's burned, may need to be serviced

For those who might be interested, I found the problem that exists in the tranny change gear mechanism. The cable that connects to the lever has a rubber bushing that broke and the cable was completely disengaged from the lever. Solution, put the half rubber bushing back with the cable on it, use a locking pin to stabilize the cable (preventing it from slipping out of the lever connection pin). So, a 50 cents solution fixes it. Thank you all for your good insightful ideas.
