Default 626 Won't start

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I just bought a 1993 Mazda 626 it was running fine until the other day i shut it off and tried to start it a short time later it took a few times of cranking to get it to start.Again i drove it a few times with no problems.I than drove it about 5mi shut it off went to start it a few hrs later it would'nt start. I turn the key its turning over but won't start.I am not getting any spark to the plugs. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor still no luck.I was wondering if anyone experienced a simular problem and how did they fix it. Its starting to get costly PLEASE HELP! Thanks, Randy

Have you looked at the battery? The terminals?

That could be the problem but I need to know more.

I think some of the other guys can probly help more than I can.

Please see this post >> WON'T START. It might be the igniter in the distributor.

Sounds like a pretty good probability there bkey. Did not see info about if was a v6 or 4 cyl but the v6 distributors were notorious for failing and loosing spark at random times. They would either stall after warmed up or not restart on a heat soak. Would usually always restart after 5 or 10 minutes.

Thanks for the replies its a 4 cyl if it's the igniter does this mean the distributor has to be replaced.

The distributor should not need to be replaced. The igniter is a small ignition module that triggers the coil and tach.

I hate bad news. But in your case the ignitor is not available, at least thru mazda, as a separate service part.[:@] Coil and ignitor were made available as separate on the v6 but was never done on the 4 cylinder distributor. Cap and rotor are pretty much all you can get outside of a complete distributor. A new one runs about $615 while a reman unit retails for $445. Good used or aftermarket may be available as well. Sorry.
