89 Mazda 929 not starting
Hello every one.
I have a 1989 Mazda 929 that won start.
Basically when turning the ignition switch, all I can hear is a click by the fuse box (relay click). Ignition lights come up but the car does not crank. I tried in parking, neutro same issue. It is acting as if there is the alarm activated and does not allow the car to start.
May be a cutoff switch that I do not know where it is.
I just put a brand new battery to rule out any posibilties of battery problems. Same issue.
I would like to know that if it is the alarm system, how to deactivate the alarm.
I saw in a forum something about an ingnition cutoff switch on this cars but I do not know where it is. The manual taks about an inhibitor switch.
This is a factory alarm.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Manuel

You need to get under the car to see if there is power going to the solenoid which should engage it. The wire will be black/red. Have someone turn the key to the start position to make sure if there is power going to it. If there is power there, the starter is no good. If no power, then the problem needs to be traced back. Also make sure the heavy gauge positive cable is tight and in good condition at the starter.

Thank you Bkey71 for your responce.
I tried to look under the car for the starter but it is very dificult to get to it, let alone trying to get to the solenoid.
It looks like I will have to remove some parts from underneath in order to get to the starter.
I will give it a try. Is the starter on the passanger side of the engine?.
Thanks,

I do not know if the starter is on the pass side. It may be easier to reach the inhibitor switch on the trans, a good way to check the switch anyways. There is only two wires according to my diagram...black/yellow going into and black/red which goes to the starter.

ON THE 89 MODELS IF YOU LOOK ON THE SIDE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR, YOU WILL SEE A STICKER ON IT. IF THE STICKER HAS THE WORDS ( THEFT PREVENTION ).YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT RE-CODED.. IF YOU CHANGED THE BATTERY IT OR DISCONNECTED THE TERMINALS ON THE BATTERY WHILE TRYING TO REPAIR IT..IT AUTOMATICALLY INGAGES THE THIEF PREVENTION SYSTEM SO THAT THE CAR WONT START. I HOPE THIS MIGHT HELP YOU GET IT GOING SO HANG IN THERE..LET ME KNOW IF THERES ANYTHING ELSE I CAN HELP YOU WITH..
