Default 91 323 hatchback

I Have a problem with the hold button/light. Does anyone know how to bypass this or turn it off???. I got the car from some kid who got it from some other kid etc. The wiring is shot . I got everything to work except this hold light. The button that is apparently on the shifter is gone. (for that matter so is the shift **** itself. I'm lost, confused, and about to just take it out in the field and use it for taget practice!!!!! I really like the little car,and it runs great, I just can't go over 55 mph cause it won't shift no higher than 2nd gear. PLEASE HELP ME
Anybody who knows something that might help i'd appreciate it.

Missing that button should not cause it to not shift out of second unless they really screwed the wiring up elsewhere. The hold button only sent a momentary ground to the ECU. It could be a problem in the ECU/trans or wiring. You might try disconnecting the connector to the valvebody and hope it goes into limp mode. Otherwise you have your work cutout for you tracing the problem down.
