929 Overheating
Hello everyone! I need help from some of you 929er's out there. My 92 is overheating, & I'm trying to figure out the cause. My radiator hose has collapsed, I have smoke coming from the radiator cap, & the temp guage remains in cold for at least five minutes before suddenly rising to hot. Also, my car is still revving when Ihit the brake pedal. Can anyone help me out on this? Any chance that I have a blown head or could it be something as simple as the thermostat or a hose needing to be replaced? Please respond ASAP!! Thanks!

RE: 929 Overheating
Sounds to me like if you have steam coming from your cap then your cap is leaking and that is what could be causing your hose to collapse as well. The fact that it stays cold for 5 minutes and then goes to hot could simply be that you're low on coolant.

RE: 929 Overheating
I have a very similar issue
I had my car ('93 Mazda 929) towed into a dealer because I blew an
upper rad hose. The technician cut out the bad portion (near clamp)and re-attached
the hose. Ever since doing this the car acts funny.
When I start the car it revs up normally and idles. Any normal car
would start to idle lower once the engine started to warm. My car on
the other hand slowly revs up until it hits 3000 rpm then drops to
2000rpm. It revs up and down like this until you shut it off.
Once I put it in gear the engine idled lower but still higher than
normal. I could feel the car pulling forward because of the higher
rpms. I watched the temp gauge closely and it wouldn't move off Zero.
After about 5 mins of driving the gauge jumped immediately to half way which is
it's normal area. Once I hit 80 kph the temp would rise to over 3/4
and stay there until I slowed to 50-60kph and it went back to half.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thank-you
