I bought a 93 626 today and when you crank the car there is a whining coming from the transmission. The best way I can explain the sound is it's like a power steering pump that is low on fluid and the sound that it makes. The car is full of fluid. The car also shifts into all gears forward and reverse without slipping. Lady who sold car tells me that transmission overheats after about an hour but I have not seen this yet for myself. I just thought someone my have an idea on this. Thanks in advance for all responces.

 

It kinda sounds like its low om fluid take the plug out and see if you can feel any fluid in the hole they hold i think I put two quarts in mine when i changed my tranny and clutch or it might be the throw out bearing howling

 

Going by your description, sounds like an automatic trans. If this is the case it sounds like the front pump on the trans is having problems. The front pump consists of a gear inside a gear. If the pump is going out, the trans must be removed for replacement. Depending on the mileage, it would probably worth getting it rebuilt rather that repaired.
