94 mazda 323 torque converter--help!
I have a 94 Mazda 323 that I think is having a problem with the torque converter or one of the parts close to it. I have no idea where the torque converter is. I want to unplug it and see if it stops the problem. The car stutters and dies whenever I put it into reverse or drive and don't give it gas immediately. It's also dying when I come to a complete stop. So I'm having to shift it in and out of neutral just to get around town. Anyone know where this part is or have a similar problem that they were able to fix?

the torque converter is the part that goes between the engine and transmission, same place as a clutch on a manual car, if there is a problem with converter the transmission has to come off to get to it, not a simple plug sorry matey.
try checking the fluid level in the transmission, may need topping up.
an automatic transmission runs purely on hydraulic pressure. no fluid - no pressure, thus the "gears" will not drive properly.
Hope this helps.

although reading it again, may be an issue with your engine.
you say the car dies when you come to a stop? i wouldn't thing that would have anything to do with the transmission as its not easy to stall an engine with an auto, not saying you can't but its not a common thing at all.
what makes you think its the torque converter out of interest?
cheers =]

Let me repharse this......
The vehicle dies as soon as you put it into gear. It is acting like a torque converter clutch problem (ie not unlocking). Does this vehicle have a lockup clutch in the torque converter?? If so, where is the wire located so that I can disable it?? On some small GM vehicles, I can disable the TCC externally. If not, then I can drop the pan to do it.
The fluid is full & the engine runs great. If anyone has any ideas, your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

hey yall- first post here lads. I'de recommend checking the vacuum your engine's generating. If you have a vacuum leak it is very common for autos to stall out at idle. If it's been a while since a timing check has been done i'de give it a quick check too. hope it helps
