Smile 99 626 rough running engine - HELP

I have a 99 626 and it runs great except when it is raining hard. Then it sounds like it is down a cylinder and the Engine light starts flashing. I have tried changing plug wires and spark plugs hoping water was getting into the cylinders. But that does not help, any suggestions. Thanks

Hi,

Sounds like several problems possible. In my 626, I changed the plugs first.

Try checking the plugs when running in park, may sure they're not loose from running, also check water pump.

I had the roughness go away after checking plugs were loose from vibration, and not tighten to spec. May sure you got the correct plugs and gap.

I also had to replace the water pump 2x in 1 year another time.

Good Luck!

I changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires already. The water pump seems to be working fine. I thought about changing the Ignition coil, but I wanted to see if anybody had the same problems and was able to solve it before I spent more money on it.

Thanks

Do you have a OBDII portable checker, is the only thing I can think of that might give you a better idea.
