Here are a few pictures of where the coolant sensor that runs the fan is located. Before going to replace, try this easy test. With the key in the run position (dash lights all on but engine not running ), disconnect the sensor and the fan should come on. If the fan does come on then the rest of the system is operating normally and the sensor is probably bad. If the fan does not come on then there is another problem keeping the fans from operating. The picture of the connector is to show you how to release. Squeeze the part facing the camera and pull up on the connector to release the connector from the sensor.

1. Turn key to "ACC" BUT engine not running
2. Unplug the Coolant Sensor
Result = Cooling Fan not running

So what else should i be trying?? sorry for asking so much Q's i really need to get it to work.....turning on the A/C while driving wasted a lot of petrol.

btw from the above problems is that mean my coolant sensor is bad??? do i need to replace it????

Thanks

Just a quick note to ozz, he means to turn the key to the "on" position, not the "acc" position to test the fan during this procedure. Also, do the fans come on while the a/c is on? Thats whats I get when you talk about wasting gas.

Yep i just went out and re-try again
1. Turn key to "ON" position BUT engine not running
2. Unplug the Coolant Sensor
Result = Cooling Fan doesn't kick in after i unplug the sensor

Yes both the Cooling Fan and A/C Fan come on if i turn on the A/C
But i don't want to drive the car with the A/C on all the time, if i don't turn the A/C on while driving, the Cooling Fan won't kick in when the engine is too hot!!!

Hope that explain a bit better

If both cooling fans are coming on normally when using the A/C then the relays, fuses, etc are all ok and must be due to the fan temp sender that you disconnected not giving an overheating signal. I would go ahead and replace that sensor. It will take a 19mm wrench to get loose and reinstall. A deep socket will probably not work as it will not fit over the connector portion of the sensor. If you can remove the air cleaner housing, upper and lower, then a box wrench will get to it ok. Otherwire you may want to purchase a crowsfoot in 19mm size to get at with a ratchet and extension.

Sorry i didn't replace it yet... reason been it's quite expensive to replace the parts. I had check with Mazda dealer already and its not cheap.

Anway babyhuey didn't you tell me in order to test the coolant temp sensor for fault i should do the following

1. Turn key to "ON" , engine not running
2. Unplug Coolant Temp Sensor
and if the fan kick in after i unplug the sensor...then there is nothing wrong with the sensor??? rather something else????

After i unplug the sensor the radiator fan kick in.

So is that mean its working FINE???
