Default Electrical circuits crossed ?

Hi there, everyone. I have a strange electrical issue on a new - to me - 97 626 with electric everything. (Locks, windows, sunroof, remote trunk, seats etc etc etc.)

I bought the car on a sunny day, and didn't see this until the first time I started it inside my garage. If I put my foot on the brake pedal, the dashboard lights come on, as do the corner marker lights. Let go of the brake, they go back off. It seems like the 'first click' of the light switch - interior lights and markers - is somehow getting power from the brake light circuit. In addition, when I turn the lights on full the high mount brake light in the rear window comes on, but only dimly. It lights up fully when I press the brake pedal.

I've done a quick visual of the accessible bits of the harness, and donlt see any signs of overheating or melted insulation. Can anyone suggest whee the most likely place might be to start digging for this cross-connect?

Where do those circuits get close and cozy? At the holes through the firewall for example.
