My 626's engine is sputtering. Help?
I have a 2001 Mazda 626 (4-cylinder). After I start the engine the RPMs drop a bit and I hear the engine sputtering/struggling to stay on. Sometimes the RPMs drop enough so that the engine turns off, but if I press the gas a bit then it doesn't happen. The engine also does this whenever it's idling, such as at a stop light. Also, whenever the engine struggles, I feel the car vibrate quite a bit.
I'm planning on going out of town for Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure what the problem with my car is. What are your ideas?

You might need to clean your IAC (idle air control) valve. You should be able to search this forum to find directions on how to do this. Your EGR valve might be stuck open too - has your check engine light come on?

I have had the same problem with my 88 model 626,so I replaced the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Now I have another problem when I give the engine gas it hesitates. What do you suppose could be wrong?
