P0301 keeps coming back on 98 626 v6
Hello guys. I just got a 98 626 es with 188,00 miles from a friend. He gave me a really good deal since it had a couple problems with it. When I got it home I checked the CEL codes and got:
P0303 - Missfire in cylinder 3
P0301 - Missfire in clyinder 1
P0171 - Cylinder 1 lean
I decided to change out the plugs and wires first. I replaced all 6 plugs with NGK Iridium IX plugs. I then replaced the wires with ACCEL supersport 8mm wires (great wires but the connectors on the coil pack are a huge pain). I also put in a K&N drop in air filter if this makes any difference.
immediately the car idled and revved up much smoother. I cleared the codes and the CEL didn't pop back up in the time I let it idle to warm up. I then proceded to take it down the road to test it out. It seemed to stutter a little in low rpms, but then is very smooth in the upper range. It was fine down the road for about a 1/4 mile then the CEL started to blink. When I got it back I let it idle and the light went out. I then checked the code again and got P0301.
I checked all connections to the coil pack and the plug and all seem snug.
I now believe that the coil pack is going bad (it looks like the original and would have 188,000 miles on it.) This is the only other thing I could see that would contribute to the problem.
Anyway I would just like to know if anyone else has any suggestions for this problem. It just is a little confusing because I thought these new plugs and wires would solve the problems. I don't know if I should head out and buy a new coil pack or try fooling around with it a little more.
Thanks alot for any help!
