Someone crashed into the side of my car.
And drove off, how nice.
anyway, hello.
My problem is, that my car does not lock properly anymore, like if you were to try locking the car with the door open, the lock rejects and stays open.
I can lock the rear doors, the front passenger door would lock too and open, but now it seems its just locked and wont open at all.
My cousin told me that if I disconnected the lock, it should lock the car fine, which isnt the case.
Is there anyway I can get around this?
Unfortunately I only have 3rd party insurance so I cannot claim to get this fixed so I'll be doing it mostly myself (IE getting a new door) but atm I just need the car to lock.
Here is the damage to the car
Thanks for those that are willing to help

Take the interior door trim off, look for damaged wiring, possibly even smashed terminal blocks / connectors, ripped wires etc., and repair or disconnect and tape off as necessary.
There is a chassis side connector block near the driver's side fuse panel you can disconnect too, but you will then have a 100% mechanical car, so you will loose functionality of all the door mounted electrical services.

That sucks!!! People are so irresponsible for their own actions these days. It makes me ashamed to be part of this human race.
You don't say if you have power or manual locks on the car?
Given where the damage is, it might be as simple as a bent linkage, which is a fairly thin (10ga+/-), easy to bend wire. But you may have to move part of the door damage out of the way to do it, if that turns out to be the problem.
Or perhaps the latch is not lining up to the striker very well any longer too.
In any case, the problem should be a fairly simple one to fix, at least until you body shop takes over.
Sorry for your trouble. You might take some solace in that what goes around usually comes back around. They'll get theirs one day too.
