Squeaky/Stiff steering? Should I be worried?
I got some belts replaced in August so I could pass inspection with my 1994 626LX V6. Recently (since it's gotten a little colder I think), it's been difficult to turn the wheel when I first start the car. After I turn the wheel to both extremes a few times, it seems okay, but if I turn the wheel all the way, it squeaks.
I asked a mechanic friend in passing if I should be concerned, or just deal with the noise (which I'm fine doing). He said that a belt could be too tight, and that it should be okay, except in the case that the (presumable) belt that's squeaking is connected to the water cooler or the alternater...in which case if it snapped, things could be bad. He said he wasn't familiar with how Mazdas worked, so I thought I'd ask here.
So, should I be concerned?
