‘89 B2600i A/C belt help needed please
Hey All! New member here. Just picked up an ‘89 B2600i, 4x4, ext. cab that needs just a small bit of work (really). It is just a project/play truck for myself and a buddy (both retired) to climb some mountain trails in.
So we changed all 3 belts, in their proper locations, all properly right and all ran fine. Today we are back under the hood with Freon to check the A/C system. Before that can begin we notice the A/C belt is WAY loose. Long story short…… we can’t figure out why she won’t tighten up. I disassembled the entire tension bracket/screw system and cleaned her up. It operates properly. No matter how far I crank the tension bolt (which again, operates fine) the belt does not tighten.
Mind you the A/C belt is the middle one and it looks like it’s associated crank pulley is not (does not have) a”V” groove. It almost looks flat like a belt should not be there but being the middle belt it has nowhere else to go since the inner and outer pulleys have their own belts.
Any help, theories or conjecture here would be appreciated!!

Update! After laying under the truck analyzing the issue I saw it!!! The crankshaft pulley broke. The two forward most sections (pulleys) broke free and slid toward the fan. We put the A/C belt in the “gap” as that is where it lined up. Now that the two pulleys have slid FARTHER forward I can see the A/C belt
in a gap 2 times as wide as the belt itself. Aahhhh!!!
This also explains the “extra” pulley nearest the fan since we used the gap instead of the out of position pulley.
$205 for a new crankshaft pulley. I am sure I will need a special tool to pull that too.
Has anyone ever repaired (welded) one???
Thoughts, comments, concerns, prayers!?!?😂😂

YES, that is the beast and thanks for the pics!! I removed both belts last night to see if I could push/beat/pry the migrating pulleys back toward the engine or away from the fan blades (which are shorter now) but no luck. I also fell short on socket size to remove the 21mm nut which I doubt I can get to without first removing the fan that the pulleys are tight (melted) up against.
The part # for this truck is:
In all fairness I did say I wanted a project truck for an adventure but I think I got an adventure within the project truck. 😁

Crankshaft Pulley - Mazda (G601-11-401)
Hopefully I can get the fan and pulley off before we leave Wednesday for a few weeks to see grand kids and have the new pulley waiting for me when we get back.In all fairness I did say I wanted a project truck for an adventure but I think I got an adventure within the project truck. 😁

So I got the 21mm on there, have soaked her good with PBB. Is it just a game of strength and leverage now or is there some kind of funky locking nut or do I need a “puller” thingy???
if it is just strength and leverage how do I keep the crank from turning backwards?

A pneumatic or electric impact wrench is the best tool to use to get it off......to install it, you may need to devise a method of holding the flywheel as you torque the 21mm bolt back down.
Is your truck a manual trans? Or an auto trans?
Have you checked the salvage yards for a used harmonic balancer?
Where at in Georgia are you located? I'm in Gainesville FL......I may have a used HB hanging around. I do know that I have several of the G6 engines, but would like to keep their HB's with those.

Thank you and I am hunting a 90 degree impact to borrow for breaking this puppy free. I am assuming this is regular threads (lefty loosey…..righty tighty).
Anyway this is a 5 speed and I am up in Ellijay Ga. I have not checked any junk yards yet but should on our upcoming 2 week trip up to NY (Ithaca) and back via the Blue Ridge Parkway (we have a new grand baby in Philly to visit on the way).
Thanks for all your assistance and keep the helpful comments coming. Pretty sure we are gonna leave for our two week trip on Thursday with the HB still in place and looking for parts and tools. We will definitely be looking forward to the fun when we get back.
ps…..I will holler at you (out the window) as we pass by Gainsville around Turkey Day as my mother lives in Naples and all the kids are coming down! 👏🏼

REALLY nice looking trucks!! My first truck out of college was a B2200, reg cab, 2wd, 5 speed, SE-5, NO air conditioning which I moved to Mobile Alabama and drove for 7 years……..again, with no A/C!! Fun!!!
This is the current project truck with said ailments!
